back in the saddle again

Well it's been a while since I blogged (and ran).  I've been trying to give my foot some time to heal, so I decided after the marathon to take up yoga. I bought a month pass to a yoga studio and I have been enjoying that. It's better than yoga in a gym because they have lots of props that are fun to use and all sorts of classes. Some are harder and some are relaxing, one is on meditation and one is even about sleeping!!  I wanted to try that one but I missed it over thanksgiving break.

I know you think this is me but it's not.

However I've been itching a little to run, and over thanksgiving break I went for a 4 mile run/walk with my aunt and uncle and felt great! Also, after boards a few weeks ago there were a few of us that went out to a bar and we found (or I found on my phone) a 10k in january that looked fun to do. So now that I think I am cleared to run, I have been looking online to find that race again. I like to use this site to find races by state. So I found the 10k that we were talking about that night (Yeti Set Run) - Brad and Colin are you in?  However, in my search, I ran across this also.

What I would most like to point out on this is the "17 mile Blaylock Creek Fun Run." A 17 mile fun run??? That is ridiculous. Sometimes (well most of the time) I enjoy my long runs, even when they get that long...but still to call it a "fun run" sounds masochistic.

FINISHER

Well...what to say? I finished!! Yeah!!

Saturday was the expo and it was sooo cold and snowy! That was bizarre. I was not happy with the "electronic goodie bags" and was also slightly disappointed with the lack of free samples available at the expo. Still got a few good samples though. Not to sound too complain-y but the shirts were strange? They are long sleeved 100% cotton mock turtles. I got a small which is very tight in the waist but the sleeves are really baggy and it is a strange fit. Oh well.

Scott and I in the freezing cold after visiting the expo.

Well the marathon started off pretty good.  The weather was almost perfect and I was feeling great. Around mile 2, I found Laurel....I thought I would never find her, but I did and we ran together for ten miles or so? Then Scott and I had to stop for the bathroom and Laurel kept on and...that was the end of us seeing her. It sounds like she had a great run and finished strong!! I wish I could have kept up with her!

We stopped a few times starting around mile 12... Scott's stomach was giving him fits...mine was a bit too. I don't know why because I don't think I ate anything too different. Next marathon (yes, I said next one...I need to redeem myself!) I will keep a food log during my training so that I hopefully can avoid the terrible bathroom situation. The lines at the bathrooms for the first 13 miles or so were horrendous. After that they weren't too bad but of course we didn't need them then!

I think around mile 4 or so, my foot started bothering me - the same foot pain that kept me from running for the last 3 weeks -  but I kept running through it. Sometimes it would be worse and sometimes it would not hurt too badly.

I'm not sure when but probably around mile 15 or so, Scott's knee was really giving him fits. Then my right hip started hurting and we were quite a pair because it hurt more for him to run and more for me to walk. There were times when we each held each other back, so I'm sure we would have both finished faster if we had done it alone, but we had each other to talk to, complain to, blame each other (why in the world are we doing this??), so that made it better.

Mile 16 or so I remember thinking OH MY GOSH WE STILL HAVE TEN MILES. And it was STARVING. In fact my mom has a video of me running by and I said to her "I'm so hungry!!" So everything along the way that I could eat, I ate. I'm sure there will be pictures of me stuffing my face and that is pretty much my memory of the race. Pretzels, gummy bears, cookies, oranges, sour patch kids, donuts..... none of those things upset my stomach. Everything tasted SO GOOD. All I could think about while I was running was salty potato chips or french fries. So I figured that I probably needed the salt and I drank double gatorade at each of the water stations.

All in all, I ended up finishing in 5:39. I was hoping for around 4:30 and if I would have kept up with my pace from the first 12 miles, I think I would have made it.

I finished, so that's what counts, right?

Wow I look great.

We found Dr. Cassa!

I'm sure what kind of pose I was making. I was hurting and tired!
Already trying to figure out which one is next.....any suggestions?

Can I join your family?

For the last few years I have been pretty anti-roommates. Not that I ever had any bad experiences with any roommates, but I've enjoyed living alone. If I want to make spaghetti and not clean the pan until tomorrow, I can do that. I don't have to worry about what I wear around my apartment. I can turn the heat way up in the winter and no one will complain that the electric bill will be too high. I can play whatever music without anyone caring. Ray Stevens? Ray Charles? Bluegrass? Hank Williams Jr? Christmas music in March? My song of the week on repeat? It's all okay when you live alone.

I am a changed person. I am convinced that Sophie has the best living situation ever. Jash sings REALLY loud in the shower and Eric yells at Sophie for not wearing a bra (at home and in public), but other than that, it's a pretty ideal situation. Can I please join your family? I can be the cousin or the step-daughter who comes in town from time to time. Or I can just move in permanently. I'll live in the cat room and make myself a nest so that I can sleep in the jacuzzi tub. Samson and Kitty Glitter might not like Addy, but she would be a good addition to the house. I know you guys would choose three cats over three pit bulls any day. Addy would fulfill the "real" cat duties that KG and Samson aren't as good at, like sleeping 23 hours a day, shedding a lot, laying in the windowsill, and cuddling up to whoever will give her any attention. KG and Samson could introduce her to the outdoors and hunting. Maybe she'd even lose some of that weight that she gained after Scott bought her kitten food and I fed it to her for 3 weeks before realizing what a terrible idea that was.

I also learned a little about twitter. I am considering becoming an active twitter member just so I can follow Samson. I was going to attempt to use a hash sign and say something clever, but I don't think I am proficient enough yet to be throwing those symbols around.

I drank too much this weekend for being a week out from my marathon, so tomorrow I will start some detox. I need to put lots of nutrient filled food in my body. Good news is my foot is feeling better, and tomorrow I plan to go on a little run to make sure all is good.

Seven days!

9 more days...

Well it's been a while. The weekend after the half marathon, I went to Virginia beach to see Emily before she moves to Germany. We had a great time. I ran 20 miles that friday - felt pretty awesome except for the last 2 miles or so. Finished in 3 and a half hours-ish and was very happy with that. I ran 3 more miles two days later in a new pair of shoes I've been trying to break in and.... well something in there wasn't a good idea.

My foot hurts.

Still. Although it is getting better. Last week it was really bad and the muscles in my leg were starting to hurt because I was walking on it so funny. Monday I had an x-ray taken which didn't show anything. Now I'm just resting it. I've been meaning to swim to keep up my cardio but haven't done that yet...

I am thinking of running a little this weekend to see how it goes, but I won't really get any training in to speak of before the marathon. I hope what I have done up to now is enough!

Off to Colorado this weekend to see Sophie. I should get a frequent visitor discount for the Kansas City airport.

Last weekend I was in Reno and took a quick drive down to tahoe. What a beautiful place. Would love to go back in the winter to go snowboarding.

half marathon

My hunger lasted all week long. I ate last week like it was my job. Two dinners and still waking up starving.

This weekend was the MO' Cowbell Half Marathon in St. Charles, MO (right outside of St. Louis). Went out Saturday with plans on going up into the arch but it was sold out for the day. Still got to look around a little bit and it was a beautiful afternoon! Also I got some new running shoes, yay!

Sunday morning it was 35 degress out. I was not prepared for that cold of weather and had a mini freak-out session. I had brought with me a long sleeved shirt from the Surf City half marathon that I ran last February so I wore that. I even got a compliment during the race on my shirt, and I finally felt like I was "IN" in the running crowd!!!

The weather warmed up really nicely and it ended up being a great run. St. Charles is a really cute little town and the race took us out to New Town, MO which also was a really neat little new town. All story book with cute houses and sidewalks and green grass, trees lining the street. It looked very new but the houses were built with an old style to them. It was neat.

My right hip and left knee were bothering me a little at the beginning of the run but luckily that went away after a few miles! Then I felt great! It was sunny, in the 60's, couldn't have been a better day. Scott and I ran the whole race together and finished somewhere around 2:10 or 2:11. My GPS watch ended the race about a tenth of a mile before they actually ended it so I'm not sure who was correct. I would say them, but all along my watch was beeping at the mile markers along with others around me, so I don't know what the chances are they we were all off? Either way, I finished somewhere around there. Surf City I finished in 2:14...and thinking back to that, I felt terrible during that race and don't even know how I pulled that time off. I remember finishing that race and thinking, OMG i have to run this twice in 5 weeks!!

So this one, I ran faster and felt AWESOME. Around mile 12.5 there was a volunteer who said to us, you look like you have 13 more miles in you!! And I don't know if he was just saying that to be nice or what, but I felt like I did! What a great boost to my running self-esteem. Also, congrats to Scott for finishing his first half marathon!!

On some sadder news, if you have been following my facebook, the dad of my best friend from college (Sophie) is missing. He went hiking on Thursday near Brainard Lake (west of Boulder, CO) and never returned. He hikes almost daily and is very familiar with the area so they don't expect that he got lost. He is also in great shape. It's a really confusing and sad situation. They had major search efforts going on all weekend, and are continuing to search the area today. Sophie and her dad have been in my thoughts and prayers all weekend and so for that reason, it's been a strange weekend, as I have felt torn inside between feeling great and so excited about my running and then feeling so so sad and scared for Sophie and her dad. So please send prayers/positive energy/thoughts or whatever you believe in out to Sophie's dad, the rescuers, and Sophie.

hungry hungry

Had a pretty good training week last week. I wasn't thinking though on Wednesday and I gave blood right before my 4 fast miles. I went to do them anyways but I barely made it through the first mile. Oops. Guess there is a reason that they tell you to wait at least 24 hours before any vigorous activity. From what I have read, it takes 24-48 hours for your blood volume to be back to normal and 4-8 weeks for your RBC count to be back to normal. If I would have known that I probably wouldn't have given blood. Also, I think I used that as an excuse a little bit to not have a great run Wednesday night.

Well Friday I think I was scheduled for 8 miles and I ended up running 6 but felt pretty good. Had to cut it a little bit short because I had a patient to get to at school.

Sunday I ran 18 miles. YAY!!! I felt AWESOME and was so proud of myself. Saturday night I worked on a new marathon playlist and so that made me pretty pumped for my run. It will probably go through a few edits before it's finalized, and right now it's at about 11 hours so I should have enough music for about one week of running. That should be good so that I don't get too tired of it.

Now I am starving. Yesterday I had a pretty good lunch and dinner, and when I laid down in bed around 10:30, I realized I was STARVING. So around 11:15, I couldn't handle the hunger anymore, got up and ate a pretty good amount, and then woke up this morning STARVING again. I guess I'm getting that post-long run ravenous appetite.

Also, I have a strange localized pain in my back. It started the last 8 or so miles of my run. You'd think I'd know what it was but right now I am kind of confused by it!

Less than five weeks!

This weekend is the Mo Cowbell Half Marathon outside of St. Louis.

Tuesday, September 20

Sorry Colin. It's been too long.

This post is dedicated to Colin because he has been reminding me about my lack of posting. Sorry Colin. Now that school has started again, I'll try to do better.

A lot has happened since my last post. Not too much running but a lot of other things! I will try to summarize:

1. Flew to Washington State and then drove to Calgary via Kootenay and Banff National Parks. It was beautiful! I got caught in a snowstorm and got to walk to the end of a glacier.

2. Had a great visit at the office I'll be interning at in Calgary starting in January!

3. Drove back to Washington state and visited my grandparents, cousins, aunt and uncle, saw my first Barn Dance, went to the Ferry County Fair, saw a really ugly turkey, got to pet a chicken, had a nice little hike around a lake with Aunt Patty, Katy, and Jenna.

4. Dan and I had an evening to ourselves and he took me hunting and I got to shoot a gun for the first time. That was cool!

5. Mikey and I had part of a day to ourself and we went boating and hung out at the lake cabin. I love my cousins.

6. Also had a great 6 mile and 13 mile run!
7. Haven't run since then. Oops.

8. Got Kansas license plates. I'm almost official. I need to get my drivers license now.

9. My car hit 100,000 miles. Yeah little car!! I clapped for it when the numbers changed over.

10. EMILY GOT MARRIED!!!  She was a beautiful bride and had such a beautiful wedding.

Time to get back on the running (and blogging) wagon. It starts tonight with 4 fast miles.

Also, my friend Laurel is also running the Marine Corps marathon and is trying to raise money for a non-profit organization that help kids and homeless people start to run in an effort to get their lives on track. Here's her blog!

Part 1: Emily's bridal fun and Hurricane Irene (AKA my weekend at home)

Emily's bachelorette party was great. The 90s limo with Sam as our driver was really fun.

Saturday, I made it home just in time for the hurricane to hit. We sat around with the lights flickering until around 8:30 when they went out for good. My parents are on a well, so no electricity = no running water also. We had filled the tub with water so that we had water to wash dishes and flush toilets. It was an adventure! The winds were so strong on one end of the house, when I went to sleep that night, the house was shaking. Luckily we survived without any major damage.

Josie played dress up from my suitcase all weekend.

And Genevieve is getting so big!

Sunday was Emily's Bridal Shower. Hurricane Irene tried to ruin it but we persevered. Here's her and her mom.

Friday I ran 8 miles, yeah! Monday I ran 4, boo. I was supposed to run 17. My tummy gave me some troubles. I think I was a little toilet-shy in the morning (without a flush toilet) and then that came back to bite me in the butt!

Tuesday, August 23

busy busy

Classes ended for the trimester and we are on our trimester break, except that the clinic is still open so I do have that to keep me busy the few days I'm here in KC.  Last weekend, I was in LA for the school's Farewell (closing down) party. It was a great time.

That is Scott, Eric, me and Dr. Talai.  Josh, this is just for you since I know you will complain that I didn't put a picture of you and me up.

I also got to go to a birthday party for my friend Sara which was on Friday night. That was a good time, but their dog got sick and Tayler spent the night at the emergency vet's office.

Sunday, we ran 15 miles. By the way the Sunday before, we ran 14. I haven't posted since then, oops! It was a pretty good run. I am in love with my new running shorts which have short-like underwear in them instead of the traditional underwear. They are really comfortable and don't ride up my rear. Here is the sunburn that I got from that run. Oops again.

I was planning on running 17 miles this coming Sunday while I am back in Maryland with Laurel, but with the projected hurricane, I am considering doing it Friday morning instead.

This weekend is Emily's bachelorette party!!! Watch out Harrisburg!!! Can't wait to post photos from that. I almost revealed some secrets but I am not sure if Emily reads this or not.

Saturday, August 13

finally cooler weather!

The running has been pretty good lately. We switched down to a not-quite-as-hard training schedule since we were a few weeks behind on ours anyways. I think it will fit better. Last weekend, 10 miles (still on the treadmill) and that felt really good.

The interval run this week - finally got to run OUTSIDE!! It felt wonderful. I went down to the track at the community college and apparently other people had the same idea because there were quite a few people walking or running on the track. It was so nice to be running outside again.

The second run this week I didn't do. I was not feeling very good Friday night and I started the run but just wasn't feeling so hot. Actually I was feeling very hot and feverish and so I just went back home and relaxed.

Also did some cross training this week...biking I think it was? That was indoors.

Tomorrow - 14 miles. I can't wait to do it all outside! It's not supposed to hit 70 till 9 am so I think we're going to head out around 7 and try to get most of the run in while it's still in the 60s. I haven't been doing too good about getting up early the past few weekends. I think 7 is a little more realistic than 5 am.

That being said, better get to sleep!

hungry trip to whole foods

I get weekly emails from Whole Foods for their weekly specials. On Wednesdays and Fridays, they usually have one thing in the store marked down a lot. Yesterday's sale was for a shampoo and conditioner, normally around $8/bottle, on sale for $2.99. Pretty good deal, and convenient since I am just about out of shampoo. I normally use a different brand of shampoo, but it's kind of expensive and towards the end of the semester, money is always a little tight.

Can I say real quick, Part IV boards costs $1235?? I have to pay that next week! Ouch.

Anyways, back to my story. You don't care what kind of shampoo I use and really that is not the main part of this story. After a long day at school and at the clinic - I literally had no break between 7:30am and 6pm - I "stopped by" Whole Foods (very hungry and thirsty) to pick up four things: shampoo, conditioner, coffee, and pasta for dinner.

This is what I left the store with:
  • cherries
  • strawberries
  • blueberries
  • grape tomatoes (have been delicious lately!)
  • spinach
  • corn on the cob
  • soy milk
  • RAW vegan protein
  • chocolate almond toffee wafers
  • fresh french roast coffee grounds
  • lime flavored mineral water
  • whole wheat pasta
  • bobo's oat barns (yum!)
  • bolthouse farms vanilla chai tea soy protein drink (yum yum!)
  • Diva Cup (for my male readers, you might not want to look this one up)
  • Diva Cup DivaWash ("Botanically-Enriched cleanser for the face, body and The DivaCup" ..... what?? I am not going to use the same thing to wash all three of those things)
  • 3 bottles of shampoo
  • 2 bottles of conditioner
I didn't pick up the shampoo and conditioner until the end of my shopping experience. I was so overwhelmed with the store and my desires to many nice things from it, I knew I just needed to get out of there before I put more things into my two basket-mini shopping cart (another reason I love whole foods, they were the first place I ever saw those darn cute things). So that accounts for the un-evenness of my shampoo/conditioner purchase.

I think it is important to note what I resisted purchasing:
  • Seventh Generation lavender dish soap (smells so good)
  • chocolate chip cookies
  • mini fruit tart (the WFM bakery makes AMAZING fruit tarts)
  • the large size fruit tart (I could never finish the whole thing...well, maybe I could)
  • parmesan cheese
  • asiago cheese
  • parrano cheese
  • cute little frog cookies
  • fancy teas in silky tea bags
  • more hair products to match my new shampoo
  • Lavendar oil bath salt
  • fresh mozzarella cheese
Something about all the beautiful produce (I have seen a lot of moldy produce at Hy-Vee in the last week), baked goods, cheeses in Whole Foods make me want to eat EVERYTHING. Especially when I am hungry. And it smells so good in there. I get this overwhelming feeling that I NEED things that I really don't need. Lavender bath salts? When was the last time I took a bath? Frog cookies? I thought "Josie would LOVE these" but Josie lives 1100 miles from here. Four different kinds of cheese? Well I couldn't really think of a great reason not to buy those except that they weren't on sale and I have some parmesan at home anyways. Overall I would give myself a B- for that shopping trip. There's room for improvement. Next time, don't go hungry.

Of course I have to include a very cute picture of my kitty. She brought me a hair tie and set it on my lap after I laid down to go to sleep and then played with it in my lap. So adorable. Sorry to you facebook friends who saw this picture twice.

On a last quick running note, I did my Tuesday Track run last night on the treadmills. Well first it was on the elliptical because the treadmills were full, and then I finished it out on the treadmill. Lesson I learned: the elliptical is not even close to running on the treadmill.

Tuesday, August 2

it hit 108 degrees today!

Instead of narrating the past 2 days' activities, I will show you in pictures. Just to change it up a little bit.

Monday, August 1

Halloween in July?

Friday, I was shopping at the Hy-Vee and they are selling Halloween candy!! Already! I bought a piece just so that I could take a picture and add it to my blog, but I accidentally deleted the picture from my phone. I'll add it in later. Unbelievable. It was July 29th. (As a side note, I tried to find a replacement photo on Google Images and google FAILED ME!! Google has never failed me before.)

Also on Friday, one of the radio stations was playing Christmas music. I heard Sleigh Ride and Elvis Presley's Blue Christmas. It's never too early for Christmas music!! I was kind of wishing they were a year-round Christmas station but come Saturday there was no longer any Christmas music.

Well, on to the running. Saturday's run was scheduled to be 15 miles. I ran 11 and Scott ran about 14. We decided to try to run outside (it wasn't quite at hot) but towards the end of the run, it was getting to be too hot for me and I couldn't continue. This week is no-more-skipping-workouts week. Cross training today. I'm not sure yet if I'll do swimming, rowing, or spinning.

I was changing Saturday morning into my running clothes, walked out of my room for a minute and came back to find Addy in my drawer.

Strawberries were on sale Friday and so I had this delicious dessert three times this weekend. Yum!

weekend in California

First of all, sorry to all of my followers who have been checking for my posts. I haven't been posting as much as I've wanted to.  Also, hello to all of my readers! Last week I had a big jump in my page hits.

I had a great weekend in California. The weather was in the 80's and dry, and it was a beautiful weekend for the wedding! I should have taken more pictures but I was slacking a bit. First off, I packed way too many liquids in my carry-on bag. I have a few ways of trying to conceal the extra liquids I have. One way that I used to do a lot was that I would bring TWO quart-sized bags and put one in the first bin that I sent through the x-ray machine, and the other in my last bin. As if they aren't both mine! Lately however, I have just used a gallon sized bag, folded it over to make it look as small as possible while still holding all of my liquids, and sending it through.

I guess you can't really tell that that is a gallon bag and not a quart sized bag, but it is. I was talking to someone this weekend who said they asked the TSA what is going on with the liquids, and they told her that if they can tell the liquids are all together, you don't even have to take it out of your suitcase anymore. I don't know if that's the "rule," but good to know if you are traveling. I haven't tried bringing any large bottles yet. I keep it to a large collection of small bottles. It works.

Like I was saying, the wedding was beautiful and Jessica was a beautiful bride!

Unfortunately I didn't get to run on Saturday because we were up late getting things ready for the ceremony. So that means I missed Thursday's run, Saturday's run, and I didn't cross train on Monday. I was still feeling sore and I hadn't run in 5 days or so. I am going to start adding in a protein smoothie after my workout and taking my multivitamin. I know I keep saying that, but I am really going to do it this time because it's starting to really annoy me!

Last night was the Tuesday Track run. It felt great. It was a ten minute warm up, followed by 1200m, 1000m, 800m, 600m, 400m, then 200m fast runs. They were at increasingly fast paces. Then followed by a 10 minute cool down.

Tonight is a cross training workout and I will also do some strength training. My training program doesn't specify exactly when to do the strength training, but they did recommend doing it 2-3 days a week and not on days that I run. So I think I will do it with my cross training.

This morning I talked to Josie (my 2 year old niece) on the phone. She told me she found Addy's toy mouse at Pop-pop's house (my dad). I think she loves Addy more than me. Last night, she was on the phone and she wouldn't talk to me. They Leah (her mom, my sister-in-law) said, "Remember Aunt Kimmy's cat Addy?" and then she was off talking about Addy the rest of the time. I don't get to see her that often, so if Addy sticks out in her mind, until she is older, she will at least remember me through Addy! Here is an adorable picture I took of her and Addy last summer when I visited.

Alright, I know you want to see another. Addy was in the car with us and climbed into her car seat.

So cute, I know. Alright well enough pictures of Josie. That's all for today. I'll write again tomorrow. Promise.

Friday, July 22

no-run thursday.

Well we didn't run last night. I am still sore from Tuesday and Sunday! What is going on? It is not too bad, but I notice it still when I go up and down the stairs. Also, for some reason I was a little scared of the run and so I think I used my soreness and my schoolwork to give me an excuse not to do my run. Why I am scared of a 7 mile run but not the 13 miles I have to run this Saturday morning, I do not understand.

I have been trying to drink more water, and I also did take my branched chain amino acids. Once though. That probably isn't good enough. I need to bring them to school with me and take them at school, but sometimes I feel strange pulling out my vitamins or supplements in public and taking them. Especially because the supplements I have are not a 1 pill a day...they are capsules and usually I have to take 4-6 of them a day to get the full amount and so then I just feel like I'm being JUDGED to be a pill popper, that everyone is watching me, wondering why I am taking so many pills! In reality, I'm sure no one even notices or even thinks twice about it if they do, so I should just get over it.  However, there is one further complicating factor and that is that once, when I was at school in LA, I took my vitamins and then almost exactly half an hour later I ran out of the classroom and had to vomit. So that has caused me to refuse to take my vitamins unless I have a really full stomach.

Enough about that. My grandmom always says that old people just want to talk about their "poops and pills" so I will withhold the former in hopes that I am not turning into an old lady. Not that I don't have anything to say about it - most people who run experience problems in the GI area at some point or another - but I'll spare you.

So last night, instead of running, Scott and I worked on a presentation for class today. This is what we looked like. Please ignore my messy apartment.

Scott is grumpy again.

I realized that in my effort to show you how excited I was to be working on the project, my posture was terrible and that is not acceptable for a chiropractic student.  Here's a better photo.

Still I realize I should be at a desk, with my screen at eye level, and my elbows at 90 degrees, but... this is all I've got for now.

Today I leave for California for Jessica's wedding!! Rehearsal tonight, run tomorrow morning, wedding tomorrow night. Going to see Joy and Kevin quickly Sunday morning and then come back Sunday afternoon. Still not doing well in those heels. Wish me luck :)

Thursday, July 21

treadmill tuesday

I have been really bad this last week about posting. There hasn't been that much interesting going on (running or otherwise) so I've been spacing my posts out.

Monday I took as a rest day. I probably should have done a cross training workout but I was still so sore from the 11 mile run on Sunday, so I decided to take the day off.

Tuesday was Track Tuesday. This turned into treadmill tuesday because of this heat. We did half mile intervals at a pace of 8:10 min/mile. Wow that was fast. But I finished the whole workout, yea!

Wednesday (yesterday) still sore. Probably from Tuesday. Not super sore, but a little sore. I decided I need to start taking my branched chain amino acid supplement and probably do some kind of protein/recovery drink after my workouts to help curb this soreness. So yesterday we went to the swimming pool and swam for about 25 minutes. Well, we were in the water for 25 minutes. Probably only swam for 15. I enjoyed it. We went to the outdoor pool at the gym and it was nice. Here is a picture of us after our workout.

Scott was grumpy because he hadn't eaten enough. We shared a black bean burger and it was delicious. I'll admit before I had one, I thought it sounded gross but yummmm they are awesome. I should have taken a picture. Next time.

On a much cuter note, Jeff (brother) just emailed me pictures of his kids (my nieces). They are adorable and I love them and miss them.

I can't figure out how to post the pictures next to each other so that's why they are on top of each other. The first one is Genevieve, and she is 9 months old. The second one is Josie, and she turned two this past March.

On a weather note, it has been HOT here. OMG so hot. Yesterday, at 6pm it was 98 degrees. Holy cow that is so hot. I can't wait for this weather to break! I've heard that September is a beautiful month here, so I just have to wait for that, but that's still...6 weeks away?

So today is Tempo Thursday. Here's the workout.

1 mile easy (10:33 pace)
5 miles MP (10:01 pace)
1 mile easy

That doesn't sound very fun. Will probably be inside again. We are in an excessive heat warning until Saturday at 7pm. Today's high is around 100, peaking around 4pm.

One last thing, this weekend I'm going back to LA for a wedding that I'm in. It's going to be so fun and really great to see Jessica (who is getting married). We have very cute black bridesmaid dresses and really really tall heels that I cannot walk in yet and on Saturday I will need to walk in grass in them. Not sure how that is going to work out.
