I get weekly emails from Whole Foods for their weekly specials. On Wednesdays and Fridays, they usually have one thing in the store marked down a lot. Yesterday's sale was for a shampoo and conditioner, normally around $8/bottle, on sale for $2.99. Pretty good deal, and convenient since I am just about out of shampoo. I normally use a different brand of shampoo, but it's kind of expensive and towards the end of the semester, money is always a little tight.
Can I say real quick, Part IV boards costs $1235?? I have to pay that next week! Ouch.
Anyways, back to my story. You don't care what kind of shampoo I use and really that is not the main part of this story. After a long day at school and at the clinic - I literally had no break between 7:30am and 6pm - I "stopped by" Whole Foods (very hungry and thirsty) to pick up four things: shampoo, conditioner, coffee, and pasta for dinner.
This is what I left the store with:
- cherries
- strawberries
- blueberries
- grape tomatoes (have been delicious lately!)
- spinach
- corn on the cob
- soy milk
- RAW vegan protein
- chocolate almond toffee wafers
- fresh french roast coffee grounds
- lime flavored mineral water
- whole wheat pasta
- bobo's oat barns (yum!)
- bolthouse farms vanilla chai tea soy protein drink (yum yum!)
- Diva Cup (for my male readers, you might not want to look this one up)
- Diva Cup DivaWash ("Botanically-Enriched cleanser for the face, body and The DivaCup" ..... what?? I am not going to use the same thing to wash all three of those things)
- 3 bottles of shampoo
- 2 bottles of conditioner
I didn't pick up the shampoo and conditioner until the end of my shopping experience. I was so overwhelmed with the store and my desires to many nice things from it, I knew I just needed to get out of there before I put more things into my two basket-mini shopping cart (another reason I love whole foods, they were the first place I ever saw those darn cute things). So that accounts for the un-evenness of my shampoo/conditioner purchase.
I think it is important to note what I resisted purchasing:
- Seventh Generation lavender dish soap (smells so good)
- chocolate chip cookies
- mini fruit tart (the WFM bakery makes AMAZING fruit tarts)
- the large size fruit tart (I could never finish the whole thing...well, maybe I could)
- parmesan cheese
- asiago cheese
- parrano cheese
- cute little frog cookies
- fancy teas in silky tea bags
- more hair products to match my new shampoo
- Lavendar oil bath salt
- fresh mozzarella cheese
Something about all the beautiful produce (I have seen a lot of moldy produce at Hy-Vee in the last week), baked goods, cheeses in Whole Foods make me want to eat EVERYTHING. Especially when I am hungry. And it smells so good in there. I get this overwhelming feeling that I NEED things that I really don't need. Lavender bath salts? When was the last time I took a bath? Frog cookies? I thought "Josie would LOVE these" but Josie lives 1100 miles from here. Four different kinds of cheese? Well I couldn't really think of a great reason not to buy those except that they weren't on sale and I have some parmesan at home anyways. Overall I would give myself a B- for that shopping trip. There's room for improvement. Next time, don't go hungry.
Of course I have to include a very cute picture of my kitty. She brought me a hair tie and set it on my lap after I laid down to go to sleep and then played with it in my lap. So adorable. Sorry to you facebook friends who saw this picture twice.
On a last quick running note, I did my Tuesday Track run last night on the treadmills. Well first it was on the elliptical because the treadmills were full, and then I finished it out on the treadmill. Lesson I learned: the elliptical is not even close to running on the treadmill.

I always thought diva cups were called mooncups
ReplyDeleteyeah i've heard that name too. i kind of like it better actually. not so diva-ish!
ReplyDeleteThat Diva Wash sounds like Dr. Bronners Liquid soap that we always took camping. Wash face, hair, body, dishes, brush teeth..... :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd NEVER go shopping when hungry. But now you know that! Love your blog!
Colleen read this to me this morning and I know the temptations of Whole Foods. Went into Boulder WF for Lunch and wound up spending 45 minutes just making a decision on what to eat. Always shopped for our family and dared not go into this store when we were out of food. Rule no 1 . Never take kids with you. Rule no 2 Don't go in unless your bank account is flush. Great post. A WF is being built in Basalt. More Temptations.
